Visit the Black Hills of South Dakota Tuesday, August 31, 2010

One of the greatest attractions of the Black Hills of South Dakota has to be Mount Rushmore National Memorial, 23 miles southwest of Rapid City. Completed in 1941, and ranked right up with the National Flag and the Statue of Liberty as inspiring symbols of America's Democracy. The four faces of the most impressive of our Nation's presidents, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt and George Washington, are carved out of solid granite, and stand 5,500 feet above sea level. Each head is as tall as a six story building, and appear just about lifelike in the sun.

This wonderful memorial isn't the only attraction that the Black Hills has to offer. There are many different attractions, with the Crazy Horse Monument right next to these presidents, as well as many prehistoric findings and locations in the area. If you like being underground, there are numerous caves in the area that are open to the public. Try the Black Hills Caverns, one of the greatest real crystal caves in the area, offers and abundance of different formations, from Logo-mites, stalactites and stalagmites, and even frost crystal formations, this is a site that can't be missed.

The best place to stay in the Black Hills, that is a great base camp from where all attractions are the closest, it Rapid City. There hotels, lodges, as many campgrounds and RV parks to stay while you are visiting the area. If you want to journey back in time, a visit to Mammoth Site, in Hot Springs, where there have been more than 58 mammoths uncovered here. Totally indoors, this site is a real working paleontological site, as well as a museum. The Black Hills were also where the world renown T-Rex Sue was found, now on display at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago.

Taliban Infiltrates South Dakota Legislature Monday, August 23, 2010

Where are the last vestiges of Afghanistan's Taliban leaders hiding? Are they cowering in caves near the Pakistani border? Perhaps they own a condo complex in Karachi. More likely they are on a Dude Ranch in America's Heartland.

Remember 1994? Religious fundamentalists overtook Afghanistan and trounced on that nation's women with a vengeance. Being draped in a burga and beaten in the streets was standard fair. Most doctors were banned from treating women, and voting - no way!

Is history repeating itself? Last week in South Dakota religious fundamentalists passed a measure making it a felony for doctors to perform any abortion, except to save the life of a pregnant woman. No exceptions are made in cases of rape or incest. There was no state wide vote. Déjà vu!

Help for victims of religious extremism in Afghanistan was slow to come. Ultimately, refugee camps sprang up along the borders and women's rights organizations broadcasted messages of support into the occupied country via short wave radio. Response to occupied South Dakota's oppression is already being mounted. Refugee camps are springing up along borders with Dakota's more open-minded neighbors, such as Mormonville, Nebraska and Laramie, Wyoming. Citizens of Redecktown, Missouri are collection CB radios to airdrop around Mount Rushmore.

South Dakota's female population has had a mixed reaction to this Red States recent horrific legislation. When Republican Kellie Clueless was asked her opinion of legislative leaders forcing their will on the intimate lives of free American women she said, "Ah um da."

Antiabortion activist, Betty Sue Backwoods was interviewed in the bikini wax isle at a Sioux Falls Wal Mart. Betty Sue was quoted as saying, "I think Rep. Roger W. Hunt is a stone-cold fox and I thank God he puts my religion over everyone else's beliefs. That's what makes America what it is to day." Then she tossed her six children into the cart and sprinted off to check the balance on her EBT card.

Surprisingly, one well known Democrat supported the bill outright. Dr Wantmoremoney, owner of the Back Alley Abortion and Penicillin Clinic, in Pine Nut, SD made several lucrative donations across party lines to illustrate his new found love of Catholicism and loathing of the US Constitution.

As the controversy rages, America's sons and daughters die and kill in Iraq. For what? To protect America from religious fanatics hell-bent on destroying individual freedoms this country was founded on. At least, that is what we are told. Yet, the US Army has not even begun reconnaissance operations around Deadwood.

Meanwhile, in Pierre, Governor Mike rounds added his input. "In the history of the world, the true test of a civilization is how well people treat the most vulnerable and most helpless in their society. The sponsors and supporters of this bill believe that abortion is wrong because unborn children are the most vulnerable and most helpless persons in our society. I agree with them," Rounds said in a statement.

When asked if perhaps a pregnant 12-year-old girl raped by her uncle might be a touch more vulnerable than a pin-sized glob of splitting embryonic cells, Rounds responded by trying to sell this reporter a new auto insurance policy. The policy came complete with the new SD mandated Terrorist Assault Vehicle Insurance attachment for an additional $10.00 per month. My own government now has a 78 Yugo better protected than my uterus.

As for the money that will be wasted fighting this rights-slapping legislation to the Supreme Court, the legislature has laid out a plan sell off more of the Black Hills to special interest corporations in order to finance this loosing battle.

Yes, it would appear the missing Taliban have been found. Religious fanaticism is alive and well in South Dakota. Privacy, individuality and freedom are D.O.A. Perhaps National Guard troops should be searching Jewel Cave in the Black Hills for Osama Bin Laden. It is suspicious that Governor Mike Rounds and Mr. Bin Laden have never been seen together in public. Could they be one in the same?

With each mystery answered a new question arises. For example, when wearing our denim burgas would South Dakota's legislators prefer we women place rodeo buckles on the inside or out?

Medical Billing And Coding Schools - Learn About AHIMA Accredited Classes Sunday, August 22, 2010

Medical billing and coding is a great career choice. However, if you want to be able to get a good position in this field you need to get the proper education first. The minimum training you should get for this field is a certificate, which doesn't usually take all that long to complete. For the best results, you should always choose an accredited program. There are a number of American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) accredited medical billing and coding schools available to choose from.

Currently, there are 35 accredited programs available. There are schools offering these training programs in Oklahoma, South Carolina, Maryland, Missouri, Illinois, Washington, Florida, California, Arizona, Minnesota, Texas, North Dakota, Arkansas, Montana, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Nevada, and New Jersey. Some states have more programs available than others.

Medical Billing and Coding Online Schools

For those who don't live near one of the accredited certificate programs, there are nine accredited medical billing and coding schools that offer a distance learning option. These are the AHIMA Coding Basics Program, Dakota State University, Kaplan Continuing Education, Lone Star College - North Harris, Montana State University - College of Technology, North Dakota State College of Science, Santa Barbara City College, Shoreline Community College, and Trident Technical College. The availability of these online options makes it so that everyone should have access to an accredited program to take medical coding classes and get their certificate.

Medical Billing and Coding Certificate

There are other medical billing and coding schools offering certificates available besides the ones that are mentioned above, but these are not AHIMA accredited. Accreditation means that the school has been shown to be teaching all of the skills that are necessary for the job. Attending one of these accredited programs will mean you will be better prepared to start work, and you will also find it easier to become certified, which employers prefer since it means you definitely have shown that you have the knowledge that is necessary to perform the job.

If you prefer a longer educational program that goes more in depth, there are also programs available to get your Associates degree or your Bachelors degree. These programs take two to four years to complete, depending on which degree you are aiming for. You want to be sure to look for programs that are accredited by CAHIMA, as this is the organization that accredits these longer programs of study.

America the Strange - South Dakota's 5 Wackiest Attractions Friday, August 20, 2010

Our journey through America's midwest continued as we crossed the border into South Dakota. While this state may be most famous as the home of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial, we discovered a whole bunch of other fantastic attractions to visit; some wonderful and some just plain wacky. So come and join us in our adventure and discover what all the fuss about South Dakota is actually about.

1. Devil's Gulch - Jesse James Jumped Here: Garretson, South Dakota

While not many natural attractions generally make the cut of being weird and wacky, Devil's Gulch makes a fair attempt at it.

Allegedly the very spot where Jesse James, famous American outlaw, fell to his untimely death, Devil's Gulch inspires a certain amount of awe and will have you hanging on for dear life at the very thought of crossing the gorge.

2. Porter Sculpture Park: Montrose, South Dakota

Big things on the side of the road are something America does particularly well. Wayne Porter is no exception to this rule and will make this clear from the moment you first lay eyes upon his monolithic structures. Marvel at the Egyptian cow head, the pink Chinese dragon, the Grim Reaper and the Screaming Man and you'll soon realize this isn't just weird: this is art.

3. 1880 Cowboy Town: Buffalo Ridge, South Dakota

While it may not have actually been constructed in 1880, Cowboy Town now looks like it was made a lot longer before, with its unique collection of battered buildings and paint peeled sets. If staged gun fights, live hangings and pilgrim shrines are your thing, this is definitely the attraction for you.

4. Dinosaur Park: Rapid City, South Dakota

It's no Jurassic Park but hey, it comes pretty close. While the adults might not think much of the green (somewhat unrealistic) structures, the kids are sure to love them. The park is home to 5 dinosaurs in total; the Apatosaurus, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex and Brontosaurus. Each is a mouthful to say and an eyeful to take in.

5. Petrified Wood Park: Lemmon, South Dakota

As far as strange things go, this one comes pretty close to the top of the list. The park is slightly eerie in its resemblance of a petrified forest, with strong evidence of many years of hard labor apparent.

A hundred conical structures are spread throughout the park, with some standing up to 20-feet tall. The museum itself is also pretty fascinating and gives you the chance to take a piece of the park home with you.

South Dakota: More than Just Four Pretty Faces Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Those who think of South Dakota may think of one of two things. First, they may think of Mount Rushmore, the attraction that has literally given this state a face. Home to the heads of four famous presidents, Mount Rushmore is forever cemented in South Dakota lore. Second, people may think of Wall Drug, an old time store located in the town of Wall. With roots that began in the Great Depression, when it offered free ice water to customers, Wall Drug is filled with relics, food, and history of the region. Billboards advertising this store can be seen from as far away as Wyoming; it may only be a matter of time before these signs are even seen from outer space.

While Mount Rushmore and Wall Drug are important entities to South Dakota, they are by far not the only things that define the state. From the Badlands to Indian Reservations, South Dakota is one state filled with endless experiences. The following is a list of places that might not be very well known, but they are certainly well loved.

Bear Country, USA - For people who like animals - who really like animals and don't just like them with a side of mashed potatoes - Bear Country is a place that is begging to be seen. Filled with black bears, elk, reindeer, cougars, bobcats, deer, bighorn sheep, buffalo and many more, this attraction allows tourists to take a three mile drive through a variety of enclosures. During the drive, several animals will approach, sniffing a bumper, pawing a side mirror, putting a nose up to a windshield. Those touring Bear Country find safety in their vehicles; it's probably best not to tour this area in a convertible. Tourists are also discouraged from picking up hitchhiking mammals...no matter how cute they look or how much gas money they offer.

1880 Train - All aboard for a feel like no other. The 1880 train, located near Mount Rushmore, enthralls tourists with the epitome of a western experience. Not only are people allowed to get a sense of an old time locomotive - as the engine roars, the whistle blows, and the train chugs across the tracks - but the scenery appears to have been painted by God, or at least Bob Ross. The train ride, winding through the rocky landscape of the Black Hills, takes roughly two hours round trip.

Devil's Gulch - Nothing says Old West quite like Jesse James, or rather nothing saws Old West quite like Jesse James evading the law. The geological wonder of Devil's Gulch gives tourists a chance to see one of Jesse's greatest escapes. As legend states, Devil's Gulch is the place where, in 1876, he jumped his horse across a fifteen foot gap as The Law was in hot pursuit. Hours earlier, Jesse and his posse had robbed a bank in Northfield, Minnesota, splitting up as lawmen approached. Jesse survived the jump across the gulch and went on to meet up with his brother in Palisades State Park.

Chapel in the Hills - The Chapel in the Hills, though an Evangelical Lutheran Church, is open to all visitors of any faith. Tucked in at the bottom of the Black Hills, it serves as a calm retreat for those hoping to experience religion, nature, or just a little peace and quiet. The chapel is an exact recreation of the Borgund stavkyrkje in Laerdal, Norway, a church likely built near the 12th century that has not undergone any drastic changes. The Chapel in the Hills, built in 1969, may have come quite a bit after the 1100's, but the recreation gives people a sense of Nordic culture, and religious preservation.

The Crazy Horse Memorial - Few states speak to the Native American culture quite like South Dakota. A region that is filled with the history and teachings of indigenous people, it is only fitting that South Dakota has a monument dedicated to one of the greatest Native American warriors in history. The Crazy Horse Memorial, though not complete, is still very much worth seeing. Being built in the Black Hills, upon completion this monument will have the honor of being the largest sculpture in the world. Dedicated to Crazy Horse, a Lakota Indian renown for his courage and tenacity, this monument epitomizes the desires of preserving traditions, values, and justice.

South Dakota, for those seeking a unique vacation, offers tourists a variety of things to see and do. Arguably the greatest state to visit for those who would like to learn about Native American history and the culture of the Old West, South Dakota gives people a true sense of heritage, a sense of wonder, and a firm grip on the roots of the United States.

Mortgage Rebate

The Mortgage Rebate is negative points that are due to the buyer. The discount points are upfront fee to lower the interest rate. The discount points are paid by buyer, while negative points are paid to the buyer. Each point equals one percent.

This entices the buyer to buy a home. Since the buyer pays huge cost to buy a home, the buyer loves the Mortgage Rebate. Mortgage Rebate can offset the down payment, and closing costs.

For example, the home is for sale for $300,000. The buyer agent offers 1 negative point to the buyer. The buyer receives $3,000.

Traditionally, the seller pays five or six percent commission to the seller agent and buyer agent. The seller and buyer agent splits the five or six percent commission. For example, the home is for sale for $300,000. The seller pays $18,000 commission on six percent ($300,000 price x six percent). The seller and buyer agent gets $9,000 each for commission ($18,000 total commission / 2).

On a 1 negative points, the buyer gets $3,000 ($300,000 price x 1 percent). So, the buyer agent takes home a $6,000 commission ($9,000 buyer commission - $3,000 Mortgage Rebate) after buyer agent gives the Mortgage Rebate to the buyer.

The mortgage lenders may advertise like 6% interest rate with 1 discount point, 6.25% interest rate with 0 discount points, 6.50% interest rate with 1 negative point, 6.75% interest rate with 2 negative points, or 7% interest rate with 3 negative points. The negative points are Mortgage Rebate. As the buyer receives higher negative points, the interest rate is usually higher.

Another form of Mortgage Rebate is fixed amount. For example, the buyer receives $1,000, $2,000, $3,000, or $4,000 Fixed Amount Mortgage Rebate. It can also be in the form of gift certificate. Some form of Mortgage Rebate is a credit to the costs of buying a home.

As the buyers rejoice on Mortgage Rebate, some lobbyists wants to ban the Mortgage Rebate. Fortunately, the Mortgage Rebate is still legal on the Sunshine State more commonly known as Florida. Kentucky also allows the use of Mortgage Rebate.

However, the state of Alaska, New Jersey, Kansas, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Louisiana, South Carolina, Mississippi, West Virginia, and Missouri bans Mortgage Rebate. For Alabama, South Dakota, Oregon, and Tennessee, the Mortgage Rebates are only credits to closing costs.

When you are shopping for Mortgage Rebate, you should check if the Mortgage Rebate is ban in your state. The best Mortgage Rebate can cover the whole closing costs.
